Early Acceptance to UWA first step towards NASA Ambition
Year 12 Guildford Grammar School student John Carter has received a scholarship and early acceptance into the Master of Professional Engineering Program at UWA.  His early acceptance, through the Direct Pathway program, is the first step towards his ultimate goal of becoming a NASA astronaut.

John has been accepted for the Direct Pathway to the Master of Professional Engineering via the Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) (Engineering). He will spend three years completing the bachelor degree with an additional year for honours. He will then complete two more years for the masters degree.

John started at Guildford Grammar School as a Year 7 student in 2015. He has appreciated the variety of academic opportunities available to him, as well as the extensive sporting and co-curricular programs.

John was part of the 1st VIII Rowing Crew who went into the Head of the River as the top seeded team. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the race was cancelled and the team missed out on the opportunity to compete. John is also involved with the GGS Cadet Unit, in the appointment of Unit Adjutant, and has acquired significant leadership skills through his time in the Unit as well as being involved in many community events and parades.

Outside of school John is a serious and successful cyclist. He has competed in several National Championships in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Last year he won a bronze medal in the Individual Pursuit (2000m).

John is extremely grateful for the opportunities he has been given, in and outside of school.
“Guildford Grammar School has provided me with a high-quality education. It has been a wonderful place to learn and grow. I have felt supported in every way, from my very first day.”

“I am so appreciative of my parents for affording me the wonderful privilege of attending Guildford Grammar School, where I have been able to thrive, follow my faith, and strive towards my goals.”

Details of other students who have received early acceptance into university will be released at the end of this week.
