Applications are currently open for music and instrumental tuition in 2020 for Preparatory and Senior School students. Our vibrant music program is one of the best in the state with 35 ensembles spread across the two campuses and all ensemble types and sizes catered for.

Our congratulations to Year 8 student Olivia who is making quite a name for herself in modern pentathlon, being named the MPAWA State Champion U15 over the weekend, receiving the highest score of any competitor in any age group!

Here at Guildford Grammar School, we aim to provide students with practical, hands-on, meaningful experiences that help our students to develop particular skills and exhibit a range of abilities that complement their curricular program and improve their health and wellbeing. From physical pursuits like stand-up paddle, crossfit, fencing, yoga, mountain biking and surfing to academic activities such as mock trial and model UN, debating, public speaking, philosothon, titrations and much more - there’s at least one activity, team or club for everyone.

15 Oct 2019 | Works starts on new world-class co-educational boarding facility
On Monday 14 October, soil was officially turned on Guildford Grammar School’s new state-of-the-art co-educational boarding facility at a ceremony held at the site of the new building. The soil was turned by Headmaster, Mr Stephen Webber; Fellow of Council, Mr Mitchell Wells; Chair of the Guildford Grammar Foundation, Mr Bill Ryan; 2019 Co-Captains of School, Nicholas Sheppard and Rebecca Adamson; Captain of Boarding, Zac Finlayson, and two brothers and sisters, Holly and Blair Dunne and Robert and Charlotte Harris, who will be boarding together from next year.
10 Oct 2019 | Our Rhodes Scholars
Since 1905, fifteen Guildford Grammar School students have been awarded a Rhodes Scholarship. The Rhodes Scholarship was established on 1902 and is an international postgraduate award for students to study at the University of Oxford.

A group of Year 5 and 6 students today launched a very special project, "Love, it's around the world", a song that was written, produced and performed by the students. They also directed, filmed and edited their very own music video clip.

Last week we celebrated the induction of eight Year 12 students into the Senior Academic Honour Society at a formal dinner, joined by our guest speaker Mr Chandler Comerford, a former US Navy SEAL who now works as a leadership consultant and trainer. The Senior Academic Honour Society celebrates Year 12 students who have scored a minimum of ten A achievement grades from Year 11 in Semester 1 and 2, and Year 12 in Semester 1.

16 Aug 2019 | Girls Excel at All Schools State Rowing Championships
The All Schools State Rowing Championships were held last Saturday and members of our Boat Shed performed at an exceptional level, especially considering that our female rowers have only been competing for two years. We had a large number of crews in the finals, including a second place performance by our 1st VIII Girls Crew. Overall we placed second out of all schools, which was a fine result!

The 2019 Career Expo will be held in the Gymnasium next Wednesday, where students and parents will have access to Old Guildfordian career mentors and representatives from universities, colleges and training organisations, who will share their wealth of knowledge about many different career paths.Year 11 student Vishal met Dr Tao-Shan Lim (Be 87-94) at last year's Career Expo and as a result he completed a work experience placement with Dr Lim at Joondalup Orthopaedic Group over the July school holidays.

Mr Clark Wight has issued a holiday challenge for the July break, to see how much time we can collectively spend in nature with no buzzing, beeping or "hurry up we are late for..." Just real time in nature with no plans, just endless possibilities, spending some time in nature and enjoying 'slow time'. Our goal is to log 1000 hours in nature across the Preparatory School!

Congratulations to our Director of Music, Mr Kieran Hurley, who has been commissioned to arrange music for the Darwin Symphony Orchestra for their musical show "Aussie Rock Legends" which is being performed this Saturday! Mr Hurley was commissioned by Old Guildfordian Mr Jonathan Tooby (St 82-86) who is the Musical Director and Conductor of the Darwin Symphony Orchestra.

You might have seen on TV recently a segment about Story Dogs volunteer teams going into schools and helping kids to learn to love reading. This Sunday, 30 June, a group of Senior School students are hosting a 5-kilometre run/walk for Guildford Grammar School students, staff and parents to raise money and awareness for Stop Trafficking 5K. The walk will depart from the Jacaranda tree in the Senior School at 1.00pm and there will be a free afternoon tea at 2.00pm.

All parents are invited to join us for an 8-week art class commencing on Wednesday 7 August. The program will be run from the Preparatory School Art Room from 6.30pm – 7.30pm each Wednesday night. For the first four weeks you will be exploring the art of resin pouring and free form pottery, focusing on the organic qualities that free form pottery creates. The second four weeks you will have the opportunity to create a painting using acrylic paints on canvas. The subject matter and style of painting is your personal choice, with assistance and guidance provided to help you achieve your goal.

Most people realise the obvious perks of teaching (rising early to spend time with keen and enthusiastic students, marking exam papers, etc) but there are sometimes hidden perks that arise by chance. Last weekend I had the opportunity along with science teachers from three other schools to fly to Kalgoorlie courtesy of Curtin University, to attend the WA School of Mines graduation ceremony and dinner and spend an afternoon at a real gold mine – and who could resist an offer like that?

Some of our Year 5 and 6 students took part in our annual Writing Festival during Term 1, gaining valuable skills and experience as writers and learning more about the creative processes involved in writing in various forms. To celebrate the Festival, we have produced a multi-media publication featuring some of the students' work, including short stories, poems, plays and songs.
4 Jun 2019 | Free Parenting Workshops - The Importance of 'why' in Early Childhood Learning
Guildford Grammar School presents two free parenting workshops with three of our most experienced educators on the developmental journey of childhood. These free talks are open to all members of the community and will cover a child's developmental stages from ages 2-5, preparation for starting school (for the parent and the child), the importance of imagination, creativity and purpose in learning and how to make the most of all your child's 'why' questions. The workshops will be held on 20 and 21 June in the Foundation Pavilion at two different times to accommodate as many parents as possible.

Guildford Grammar School has launched a global search to replace long-serving Headmaster Stephen Webber, who will leave the School at the end of 2019 after nine years of service. School Council Chair Mitchell Wells said a new Head would be appointed in the coming months and the School was well placed to embrace the next era of education excellence under a new leader.

We are excited to announce that from 2020 we will welcome girls into boarding at Guildford Grammar School, offering a fully co-educational boarding experience. We have recently released the designs of our new world-class, state-of-the-art co-educational boarding development that has been submitted for approval, with the new facility to be ready by 2021.
