All players will meet for a two hour training session at the Foundation Pavilion in preparation for the first trial game of the season, the following day, against Joondalup Brothers RFC. Training 2.30pm – 4.30pm.
Players will assemble at the DLD car park at 3:30pm to travel to Joondalup Brothers RFC (HBF Stadium, Joondalup) in Guildford Grammar School tracksuit. It is essential that students consume a pre-game meal between 2.00pm and 2.30pm. The trial game will kick off at 5.30pm. A post game meal will be provided. Students will return to the DLD by 8.30pm.
Players will meet at the school gym at 9.00am to complete a recovery session. Students will need to bring bathers and a towel, as they will be using the school pool. This will be followed by a light training session prior to lunch. The students will travel to Midland, via train and accompanied by staff, to dine at Grill’d restaurant. The final session of the day will be an analysis of the trial game against Joondalup Brothers RFC.
Meeting at 12.00pm at the Foundation Pavilion this Training Day will provide players with expert coaching and analysis on safe contact and tackling, core skills including catch and pass, set piece lineouts and scrums, kicking and running. The students will then travel by school bus to Perth Bayswater Rugby club with a round of controlled trial matches for the Year 7 – Year 12 players taking on Bayswater Rugby Club teams at their home ground. Students will be transported back to the DLD carpark for collection at 7.30pm.
Again we have collaborated with the Western Force to give students the experience of how a day in the life of a professional rugby player feels. Players will complete a series of fitness tests to help target setting for the new season, experience a hot/cold recovery session and then join the Rugby WA Elite coaches for expert advice on skills development and game management. Students will travel by school bus from the DLD car park at 8.30am and return to the DLD car park for a 4.15pm collection.
The day will begin at 8.50am with team meetings to analyse the previous night’s game and assess areas for improvement in the remainder of the training camp. Students will then complete a fitness test as a club to measure recovery rates. The remainder of the day will be spent working as teams attending “surgeries” to focus on improving elements of the game such as scrummaging, lineouts, kicking for territory and attacking lines. The surgeries are designed for all students to participate regardless of whether they consider themselves to be a forward or back. It is essential that players have an understanding of the intricacies of all positions on the field. It may also lead to a couple of players discovering their true calling on the rugby field. Training will finish at 3.00pm with a BBQ. At 4.15pm Guildford Grammar School players will then be bussed to NIB Stadium enjoy the Western Force play the Chiefs (NZ) proudly in the navy blue of the Guildford Grammar School community. Families are welcome to purchase additional tickets for family and friends and transport to and from the NIB stadium is available.
